Welcome to Cathedral City, California.
As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 42,647. Sandwiched between Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage, it is one of the cities in the Palm Springs area, Cathedral City is located in Riverside County in southern California, just minutes from the famous golf communities of Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert.
Nestled on the floor of the low desert, the town's name comes from Cathedral Canyon just south of the city, so named because its' spectacular rock formations are reminiscent of a cathedral.

Besides year round superior golf, Cathedral City also offers a wide range of other recreational opportunities such as hiking on mountain trails and water skiing on the Colorado River.
The Idyllwild Nature Center has five miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to moderate, as well as a museum where you'll find exhibits about the nature and cultural history of the San Jacinto Mountains.
Other places to visit in Cathedral City include the Jensen-Alvarado Historic Ranch and Museum, and the Gilman Historic Ranch and Wagon Museum which preserves, celebrates and interprets the history of California, from the Cahuilla Indians to the settlement of southern California and the San Gorgonio Pass.
Cathedral City is conveniently located less than 10 miles from downtown Palm Springs, and just a short drive to the Palm Springs Airport, located between Cathedral City and Palm Springs.
The Fountain of Life was designed by artist Jennifer Johnson in coordination with architect Reuel Young, A.I.A. It was built by House of Stone and Fountains and Landscape Enhancements.
Artisans whose families have sculpted stone for more than 600 years carved the fountain pieces out of adoquin stone from a quarry near Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Once the individual pieces arrived in the desert, Johnson spent more than a year adorning the fountain with hand cut mosaic tiles and glass. Not only an artistic achievement, the fountain also represents an engineering feat.
